ABOUT KUBORAUM

KUBORAUM ARE MASKS DESIGNED ON THE FACE OF THOSE WHO WEAR THEM, MASKS THAT HIGHLIGHT PERSONALITY AND EMPHASIZE CHARACTER. THE MASK IS SYNONYMOUS WITH MOCKERY, WITH GAME. THE KUBORAUM MASKS ARE SYNONYMOUS WITH ACCENTUATION, PROTECTION AND SHELTER. KUBORAUM ARE LIKE CUBIC ROOMS WHERE WE SHELTER OURSELVES, WHERE WE ARE FREE TO LIVE IN OUR INTIMACY, WHERE WE LIVE ALL OUR IDENTITIES AND LOOK AT THE WORLD THROUGH TWO LENSES.

THE BRAND WAS FOUNDED IN BERLIN IN THE ROOMS OF A FORMER POST OFFICE ON THE BORDER BETWEEN EAST AND WEST BERLIN. THE SPACE THAT WAS ORIGINALLY CONVERTED INTO A GALLERY, IMMEDIATELY BECAME THE INCUBATOR FOR THE CREATION OF NEW PROJECTS. AFTER VARIOUS METAMORPHOSES, TODAY THIS PLACE INCLUDES THE STUDIO, SHOWROOM AND THE KUBORAUM FLAGSHIP STORE. FROM DESIGN TO BRAND IDENTITY, FROM IMAGE TO COMMUNICATION, FROM PHOTO TO VIDEO PRODUCTIONS, FROM INSTALLATIONS TO INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECTS – ALL CONTENTS AND ALL THE MAGIC HERE IS DEVELOPED UNDER THE DIRECTION OF ARTIST, SCULPTOR, DESIGNER LIVIO GRAZIOTTIN AND ANTHROPOLOGIST, BRAND, COMMUNCIATION & MARKETING DIRECTOR SERGIO EUSEBI.

ALL MASKS ARE ENTIRELY DREAMED IN BERLIN AND HANDMADE IN ITALY.

KUBORAUM EYEWEAR IS NOT AN INANIMATE AND INORGANIC OBJECT, BUT OBTAINS THE POWER OF A MASK. IT CHANGES THE PERCEPTION OF SELF. THOSE WHO WEAR THE KUBORAUM MASK, COME TO LIFE AND ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE TO FREE THEIR IDENTITIES. THESE MASKS REPRESENT CUBIC ROOMS, A NEW DIMENSION WHERE WE CAN FEEL AT EASE, COMFORTABLE WITH OURSELVES AND THE WORLD AROUND US. KUBORAUM IS NO LOGO. IT IS A MASK WITH ITS OWN LOOK AND POWER, BUT AS SOON AS YOU WEAR IT, THE MASK DOESN’T HIGHLIGHT ITSELF, BUT IT HIGHLIGHTS THE PERSONALITY AND FEATURES OF THE PERSON WEARING IT, KUBORAUM’S IDENTITY IS ABOUT THIS RELATIONSHIP.

THE PROJECT STARTED IN FEBRUARY 2012 WITH THE ITALIAN ARTISANAL TRADITION IMPLEMENTED IN A BERLIN BASED CREATIVE ENVIRONMENT. HENCE, DREAMED IN BERLIN AND HANDMADE IN ITALY.


KUBORAUM MASKS

WITH A CONSISTENT PLAY AND INHERENT IRONY KUBORAUM DISRUPTS THE COMMON DESIGN OF EYEWEAR WITH ITS NEW E-MASKS.

HERE A SINGLE PIECE OF CARL ZEISS NYLON LENS IS SIMULTANEOUSLY LENS AND THE FRONTAL BASIC CONSTRUCTION OF THE FRAME. BLACK ACETATE CIRCLES, TOGETHER WITH AN ADDITIONAL PAIR OF LENSES, ARE ASSIMILATED WITH THE FRONTAL LENS, FROM WHERE THE TEMPLES START. A PAIR OF SUNGLASSES CONSTRUCTED INTO THE INTERIOR OF ITS OWN LENS AS LIFE‘S METAPHOR FOR A POSSIBLE COEXISTENCE OF MULTIPLE POINTS OF VIEW AT THE VERY SAME TIME.

WITHIN THE MASK T10 KUBORAUM BERLIN INVESTIGATES THE PLAY OF ABSENCE AND PRESENCE, DEPICTING SPACE AS FRAGMENTED AND FRACTURED IN AN ELEGANT DESIGN UNITING ROUNDED CONTOURS, HOLLOW SEGMENTS AND CONTROLLED GEOMETRY.

CONTRASTING PURE SHAPES WITH RUSTIC TEXTURES, KUBORAUM‘S DOUBLE-WIRE METAL FRAMES ARE SOPHISTICATEDLY REFINED THROUGH ITS CHARACETRISTIC HAND-HAMMERED FINISHING, EVOKING SUBTLE IRREGULARITIES IN THE ELSE CLASSICALLY SHAPED SQUARE, OVAL OR ROUND AND OVERSIZED SILHOUETTE - INFUSING A RAW AND SPONTEANOUS ELEMENT OF IMPERFECTION INTO A CONTEMPORARY VISION OF SUBTLE ELEGANCE. ALL H10, H11, H12, H14 MASKS FEATURE MAGNIFICENT UNEVENLY FLAT HAMMERED METAL TEMPLES AND ARE ACCENTUATED WITH A FINELY CRAFTED INTERLOCKING METAL NOSE BRIDGE, BLENDING MODERNITY AND TIMELESSNESS INTO A NEW FORM OF SOPHISTICATED ELEGANCE.

SHARPENING THE FOCUS ON A NEW METAL & ACETATE DOUBLE-BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION, KUBORAUM PRESENTS ITS N3, N4, N5 MASKS.

A FILIGREE ARCHED METAL STRUCTURE LAY-IN BEING INTEGRATED INTO THE SOLID CLEAN-LINED ACETATE NOSE-BRIDGE SEGMENT, ACTS HERE METAPHORICALLY AS A JOINING LINK OF THE PROCESS OF TRANSFORMATION AND BECOMING, ECHOING A MODERN AESTHETIC OF METAMORPHOSIS AND CHANGE FROM WITHIN. ALL MASKS ARE ACCENTUATED WITH TITANIUM NOSEPADS.


PRECIOUS LUMIERE

DRAWING INSPIRATION FROM THE LUMIERE BROTHERS’ (1895) FIRST KINEMATOGRAPH, KUBORAUM’S LUMIERE SERIES IS A HOMAGE TO THE CAPITAL PARIS IN THE 1920S - ITS PASSAGES, FIRST BOUTIQUE WINDOWS, PREMIERING ‘EXPOSITION INTERNATIONAL DES ARTS DECORATIFS’ AND THE STYLE OF ART DÉCO WITH ITS CURVING FORMS, RICH MATERIALS AND EXQUISITE CRAFTSMANSHIP.

THE MASKS A1, A2, C2, U3 AND U6 LUMIERE REDRAW THE TROPES OF THAT ERA WITH PRECIOUSLY HANDCRAFTED IRREGULAR BRONZE AND STERLING SILVER APLLIQUES OUTLINING THE ACETATE FRAME, ABSTRACTLY EXPRESSING THE DANCE BETWEEN SLOWNESS AND SPEED, MOTION IN VISION, SEEMINGLY COMING TO LIFE LIKE AN OLD CLOCK INSIDE A DISNEY MOVIE.
