COLLECTION NO1 is the home of calm and collected forms. It lays the foundations for the MYKITA range, which now comprises around a dozen lines. The stainless steel frames are cut out of sheet metal and, in similar style to the Japanese principle of origami, then bent and folded to become a three-dimensional object. The openly displayed snap-hinge system, which supplied the innovative principle for all subsequent collections, symbolizes the fundamental design principle of MYKITA; the technical solution must at the same time be an aesthetic one.
MYKITA’s COLLECTION NO2 plays with colours, silhouettes and line widths. All frames are made using acetate – a material comprised of cotton and coloured pigments. The cutting-edge hinge concept developed at the MYKITA HAUS constitutes an aesthetically appealing link between the frame front and temple. This is visible technology with a sophisticated look – the quintessence of the MYKITA form and function philosophy.
Quoting iconic styles from the 20th century, a huge pool of inspiration for shapes and styles, DECADES re-interprets timeless classics in a modern way. From classic Panto frames to the bold contours of the 1960s and the supersized form vocabulary of the 70s and 80s. The translation of the models into MYKITA’s ultra-thin stainless-steel concept gives this collection an unprecedented, contemporary look.
The LITE series sees MYKITA introducing its lightest stainless steel frame concept to date, averaging just 12 grams in weight. The filigree stainless steel frame comprises just three parts, and is distinguished by its radical simplicity.
The MINT COLLECTION is the first collection designed specifically for Asian faces. It reinterprets popular designs from the 20th century and transfers them into the present. This involves giving classic forms of the 1950s and 1960s a makeover in accordance with MYKITA’s stainless steel concept while sensitively incorporating the aesthetic spirit of East Asian cultures.

The MYKITA MYLON glacier glasses are the perfect sports companions. The removable side clips are an avant-garde alternative to the leather sections of 1950s alpine goggles that protect from both sun and wind. The lenses are made of mineral glass, which delivers top-calibre vision and is also known for its extremely robust quality. Gently breathing on the lenses reveals the MYKITA MYLON glacier logo. The ultra-light glasses hug the shape of the wearer’s head, while the flexible temples retreat similarly comfortably under any helmet - an absolute fusion of functionality and aesthetics.
The evolution of the MYKITA MYLON frames began with a new production process: Selective Laser Sintering enables the creation of objects in every possible geometrical configuration.Layer by layer a super-fine polyamide powder is turned via CO2 laser sintering into three-dimensional objects that are fed in before hand in data form. In 2007 MYKITA began experimenting with the polyamide material, aiming to pioneer it in the production of eyewear. Several years of research were invested in the development of a complex, patented process in which the raw surface of the material is prepared and rendered wearable in a series of stages, giving the frames a unique visual and tactile appeal.
All MYKITA MYLON sunglasses are fitted with lenses from optical specialist Carl ZEISS, which provide maximum glare control plus 100% protection against UV rays. An exclusive golden antireflective coating ensures that unwelcome reflections are reduced to a minimum. A scratch-resistant and hydrophobic nano-coating immediately makes any drops of water bead up and roll off the lenses, thus simplifying the cleaning process while ensuring maximum visual comfort. ZEISS and MYKITA have also developed two lenses specifically for golfers that are colour-optimised to increase the contrast on the green. Most MYKITA MYLON frames can alternatively be ordered with polarizing lenses that absorb reflections e.g. on the piste, in watersports or while driving your car.
Inspired by the 1976 Winter Olympics, FRANZ marked the start of a long-term collaboration between MYKITA and Paris-based fashion designer Bernhard Willhelm in 2009. The resulting range of mirrored glasses with stainless steel frames has since seen the addition of various colours, forms and new designs. From sun visor to coloured gradient lenses or 1980s-style aviator frames – as applies to the fashion designs of Bernhard Willhelm, these models blend innovative designs and cues from the world of contemporary culture to form independent creations.

An in-depth study of form, colour and surface laid the foundation for the MYKITA / DAMIR DOMA collaboration. Inspired by the idea of translating the traditional circular frames of the intellectual avant-garde into a modern expression is how the contemporary design series with models DD01, DD02, DD03 and DD04 came into being. The collection is distinguished by a minimal aesthetic; visible construction and a progressive use of materials are recurring design elements. All frames are manufactured at the MYKITA HAUS in Berlin, where traditional handcraft meets modern engineering.The MYKITA / DAMIR DOMA Collection is a product incarnation for the present-day, where luxury is also state-of-the-art technology.
BETH is the product of a sketch resulting from the search for the perfect pair of sunglasses – drawn instinctively and spontaneously by Beth Ditto. MYKITA teamed up with the Gossip singer to create a special frame made of lightweight stainless steel, customised to fit her facial contours. The oversized cat-eye frame featuring pointed top corners is an immediate head-turner.
MYKITA supports the design hotels initiative "Finding Infinity", whose goal is to inspire the world for more sustained engagement. MYKITA came on board to support the project with its mascot: A pair of glasses inspired by the shape of the number eight, the symbol for infinity and the logo of Finding Infinity. The glasses’ black frame is made of a recyclable material with a golden hinge to correspond with the distinctive yellow lens.
Experiments with lasers and new print technologies comprised the basis for the collaboration between Kostas Murkudis & MYKITA. Inspired by a selection of fabrics from the Murkudis collection, the models ELEKTRA and PHINEAS were imprinted with a mesh-pattern structure. Distinguishing features of both models are the lightly tinted lenses that subtly reveal the eyes of the wearer.
MYKITA eyewear collections have won a variety of design awards since the company was founded in 2003. That doesn’t just apply to the products themselves; the annual campaign, the MYKITA 8 anniversary book and the MYKITA MYLON campaign have likewise all won accolades.
The jury of the German Designer Club honoured several MYKITA projects in 2013. The MYKITA MYLON film picked up first prize in the Photo/Film category, the MYKITA Brand film won silver in the same category and the model SIGUR from the LITE collection was honoured with a GUTE GESTALTUNG 14 (GOOD DESIGN 14) Award in the product category. The DDC was established in 1989 offering a national and international platform for an interdisciplinary exchange and development of “Good Design”.
MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award presented MYKITA MYLON ¬– a material many years in research – with the Gold prize on account of its high degree of innovation and sophisticated design criteria. Since 2002, MunichExpo Veranstaltungs GmbH bestows the MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award annually. The winners of a MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award display an ability to stand out with excellent design in the material-driven field of technology.
In 2013 MYKITA took part in the renowned competition Design For Asia for the first time, winning Gold with the Asian format of the model BASKY. The Design For Asia Award (DFAA) is the flagship programme of Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) aimed at celebrating design excellence and acknowledging outstanding design with Asian perspectives.
The MYKITA MYLON lookbook was awarded the Red Dot Award for Communication Design in 2013. Since 1993, the Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen honours the most important trends in Communication Design.
MYKITA MYLON received a “Special Mention” in the “Lifestyle” category for particular design quality. The board of design annually honours high-calibre products and projects from the world of product and communication design with the German Design Award.

The MYKITA EIGHT book won the 2013 iF communication design award in the ”corporate communication” category. The iF award has been a prestigious hallmark of top-calibre design ever since its introduction in 1953. 8 comprises a retrospective of the last eight years of MYKITA.The book provides an insight into life behind the scenes at a modern manufactory, the MYKITA collaborations and takes a look at the evolution of MYLON, a new material developed by MYKITA. The 8th anniversary also prompted MYKITA to invite selected artists to produce original works illustrating their impressions of MYKITA.
